highwater, a novel

Liz Goldfine thought she had left it all behind. Hiding herself away in the Adirondack Mountains by a pristine lake, she’d put her past away – things she could never tell anyone. When a man from her old life shows up at her door one rainy, spring night, it all begins to unravel.

Christopher is different, somehow. He seems to know things now, things that are about to happen. He knows that the rising water table in the region is tied to a presence which seeks to claim them all, and to a baby boy in need of a transfusion requiring Liz Goldfine’s blood.

Detective Tom Milliner has been following Christopher since he showed up in the small town. Now Milliner is caught in the web, forced to confront his own past; his childhood days in the Adirondacks, and the lake he used to swim in with friends.

That lake is now rising. Formed by ancient glaciers, the water harbors a dark intelligence in the deep. Something is beginning to take hold of people, conspiring to stop the healing of the boy, and all those who are trying to help him.
